Help for the Netfax teletext news reader on iPhone and iPad

Need help, found a bug or have a feed that won't load? Email [email protected] and include your device, iOS version and, if relevant, the feed address.

How do I add a feed?

On the home screen, tap Paste a feed. You can also open Feed Settings, choose a category and tap Paste a feed URL. Enter the address of a public RSS or Atom feed, give it a name and save. Its headlines appear on the category's teletext pages.

What does Add News do?

Add News adds public feeds from BBC News, Sky News, The Register and Hacker News to your device, for your personal reading (Hacker News comes via hnrss.org, an unofficial feed not run by Y Combinator). It downloads a small feed list from pintpoint.co.uk and sets up the news sections. Headlines and the publisher’s summaries are shown with a credit line, and you can open the original article on the publisher’s site. You can remove any feed in Feed Settings, or import a feed list from the Files app instead.

Why won't a feed load?

Weather

Page 400 shows a forecast from Apple Weather for the UK place you choose. Netfax does not use your location. If no forecast appears, check your internet connection and try again later.

Which page numbers should I know?

Type any three-digit page on the remote, or use the coloured buttons.

The page keeps changing. How do I stop it?

Long stories rotate through sub-pages (1/3, 2/3...) every 25 seconds. Tap HOLD to freeze the current sub-page, and tap it again to carry on from where it was.

What is Full story?

On a story page, tap Full story (or the yellow FULL key) to read the whole article as teletext sub-pages. Your device fetches the publisher’s page only when you tap, like a browser; the text is kept in memory for that session and never saved or shared.

Can I read other websites?

Yes. Open Feed Settings and choose Read web page, then type an address. Netfax keeps the headline and paragraphs and shows them as teletext. Video, maps and sign-in pages can’t be shown.

Is page 690 real market data?

No. Page 690 is a simulated 1980s competing-quotes screen. Every company, code and market maker is fictional and prices are generated on your device. It is labelled SIMULATED MATERIAL · NOT LIVE MARKET DATA.

Can I tap the screen?

Yes. Tap any three-digit page number on the teletext screen to open it, tap a coloured label on the bottom row, and swipe left or right for the next or previous part.
