Netfax Privacy Policy
Effective date: 11 October 2026
Netfax ("the app") is a retro teletext-style news and RSS reader for iPhone and iPad, made by Paul Desmond (PINtPOINT). This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it. In short: the developer collects no data about you.
What we do not collect
- No account or sign-up. There is nothing to log in to.
- No analytics, no tracking and no advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
- The developer does not collect, receive or store any personal data or usage data from the app.
What stays on your device
Your feed list, downloaded (cached) headlines and summaries, chosen page numbers, skin and other settings, and your chosen weather place are stored only on your device. They are not sent to the developer. They are removed when you delete the app.
Teletext Camera: photos you choose in Teletext Camera (page 470) are picked with the system photo picker and converted to teletext pictures on your device. They are never uploaded. Netfax does not need access to your photo library; saving a conversion goes through the system share sheet, and a small gallery of your conversions is kept on your device only.
Connections the app makes
Netfax connects directly from your device to the services below. The developer does not run a server in between, and each service's own privacy policy applies to what it receives.
- News feeds you add: your device fetches each RSS/Atom feed directly from its publisher. As with any web request, the publisher can see your IP address and the app's user agent (
Netfax/1.0), and may handle that under its own privacy policy. - Add News (optional): if you tap Add News, the app downloads a small feed list from
https://pintpoint.co.uk/netfax/starter-pack.json. This website is hosted on GitHub Pages behind Cloudflare, which may log standard request data (such as IP address, user agent and time) for security and operations. The developer does not use this to identify you. - Weather: forecasts come from Apple WeatherKit for a UK place you choose in the app. Netfax does not ask for location permission or use your device's location. Apple's privacy policy applies to WeatherKit requests.
- Exchange rates: European Central Bank reference rates are fetched from the Frankfurter API (frankfurter.dev).
- Built-in open sources: if you enable them, GOV.UK, NASA and Global Voices feeds are fetched directly from those sites.
- Web reader: fetches only the pages whose address you enter, directly from that website. Images, scripts and trackers on those pages are not loaded.
- Full story (only when you tap it): on a feed story, tapping “Full story” fetches that story’s public web page directly from the publisher, on your device, like opening it in a browser. The text is kept in memory for that session only. It is never saved to disk, never sent to the developer and never shared.
- Opening an original article sends you to the publisher's site, where that site's own policies apply.
Children
Netfax is not directed at children, and the developer does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.
Your rights
Because the developer holds no personal data about you from Netfax, there is nothing for us to access, export or delete. You can remove everything the app stores by deleting your feeds in Feed Settings or by deleting the app. For questions, contact [email protected].
This website
pintpoint.co.uk counts page views with cookieless Cloudflare Web Analytics and a record on our own server. Neither sets a cookie or identifies you — see the PINtPOINT website privacy policy. The Netfax app itself sends us nothing.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new effective date.
