Look into this busy City pub at lunchtime. Who can these young men be, this flock of exotic birds in their brightly-coloured floppy cotton jackets — yellow, pale green, deck-chair striped — milling about and talking ten to the dozen? They are futures traders, formidable young men who spend their working day battling it out in the financial mêlée of London's Futures Exchange in Cannon Bridge, just round the corner. The juke box was even louder than the trading pits. Mainly a lager house; the cook did a daily joint for hot meat sandwiches. 'City men are keen carnivores.'
