The Story
The St Brides Tavern at 5 Bridewell Place took its name from the journalists' church just across Fleet Street. A Watneys house in 1991, it served the last of the press diaspora as they drifted westward. The church remains; the pub does not.
The City consented demolition and a new pub inside the office scheme that replaces it. That unit has not opened. Until someone pulls a pint in the new block there is no successor here — only a planning drawing.
