The Story

24 King William Street, EC4. A two-bar venue with 24 TV monitors and one huge videowall upstairs for watching sport. The 1999 Evening Standard reviewer lured a friend called Alex away from his City job with the promise of a free lunch. He ordered a cola and was charged £1.55 for 'a chemical arrangement dispensed from a gun over a glass of ice.' Alex had a Carling at £2.20 — cheaper than the cola. The food arrived 25 minutes late; the warm ciabatta had been nuked to cotton-wool softness. The waiter looked like he might be on a day-release scheme from one of Her Majesty's institutions. As Alex pointed out on the way back to the office: 'There is no such thing as a free lunch.'

Ghost Hunter mode reveals 500+ closed and demolished pubs on the PINtPOINT radar — each one a room that once poured pints on that exact street corner.
