The Story
A small Georgian pub on The Terrace in Gravesend, made from two fishermen's cottages and believed to have opened in 1847; its name marks the union of England and Scotland. It belonged to the Gravesend brewers Walkers and later Charrington, and is believed to have been the town's last beerhouse, only gaining a full licence in 1953. After a spell of closure in the 1980s and 1990s it reopened as a free house and was named CAMRA's National Pub of the Year in 2003. Its owner closed it in October 2015, and CAMRA lists it as closed long term with its future uncertain.
